Hiden Analytical will be attending the 137th Catalysis Symposium, taking place 23-24 March 2026 at the Tokyo University of Science Ookayama Campus in Tokyo, Japan. Representing us will be Yoshiaki Watanabe and Hayato Tanaka of Innovation Science, our Japanese partner, who will be onsite showcasing Hiden’s instrumentation.

Organized by the Catalysis Society of Japan, the 137th Catalysis Symposium is designed to accelerate cross-sector exchange by convening leading industry–academia–government speakers around high-visibility “boundary” topics. The symposium is structured into two technical pillars: (1) homogeneous-catalysis frontiers in polymer synthesis and deconstruction, spanning precision polymerisation, bond-activation strategies for resin breakdown, and catalyst-enabled routes to quantitative chemical recycling; and (2) carbon-neutral synthetic fuels, focusing on feasibility from CO₂/H₂O + carbon-free energy pathways through to process options, fuel requirements/standards, and the catalyst R&D gaps that will determine scalability.

What to Expect?

  • A focused symposium designed to accelerate cross-sector exchange (academia/industry/government) around high-impact catalysis topics.
  • Two technical themes that map directly to instrumentation needs in catalyst R&D:

    • Frontiers in polymer synthesis/depolymerization via homogeneous catalysis

    • Status and future outlook for carbon-neutral synthetic fuel manufacturing technologies

  • Measurement challenges at the centre of discussion: expect emphasis on reproducibility, reaction mechanism validation, and bridging lab-scale insight to scalable process conditions (e.g., transient behaviour, selectivity control, stability/deactivation).
  • Strong relevance to carbon management and circular chemistry, polymer lifecycle and synthetic fuels both demand quantitative understanding of gas-phase products/by-products, reaction pathways, and catalyst performance under dynamic conditions.
  • A venue optimized for scientific networking and technical problem-solving at Tokyo Tech’s Ookayama Campus, enabling deeper technical conversations than broad multi-track conferences.

Hiden Analytical at 137th Catalysis Symposium:

  • Meet Yoshiaki Watanabe and Hayato Tanaka of Innovation Science, our Japanese partner, at the Hiden Analytical booth to discuss measurement strategies for reaction monitoring, catalyst screening, and mechanistic studies, especially where gas composition and transient behaviour drive decision-making.
  • Practical pathways to higher data confidence: expect guidance on reducing uncertainty via calibration strategy, sampling design, background management, and repeatable test protocols, key for publishable, comparable catalyst datasets.
  • Application fit to symposium themes:

    • Polymer synthesis/decomposition: aligning analytical tools to quantify evolving gas species and correlate composition with catalytic pathways.

    • Carbon-neutral synthetic fuels: enabling selectivity and conversion tracking for CO/CO₂/H₂-derived chemistries and product distribution control.

  • Innovation Science‘s instrumentation portfolio and service infrastructure will help translate technical discussions into implementable lab workflows and sustained support post-event.
